Clinical thermography: infrared diagnostics that see what conventional tests do not show.

Meta-Analysis 2024

88,5%

sensitivity in breast thermography detection

22 studies analysed (2001-2023). Specificity: 71.8%. The most recent studies show a combination of sensitivity and specificity comparable to standard diagnostic tests.

Comparison

Thermography vs. other methods

Criterion Thermography Mammography Ultrasound
Radiation None Ionising None
Pain / Discomfort None Compression None
Physical contact No contact Yes Yes (gel)
Contrast No No No
Repeatability Unlimited 1-2x/year As needed
Dense tissue No issue Limitation Good
Functional diagnostics Yes No Partial

Thermography is a complementary examination. It does not replace mammography or other diagnostic tests, but significantly complements them.

Applications

Four areas of application

Complementary Breast Screening

Especially valuable in women with dense breast tissue (where mammography has limitations), in young women (< 40, before mammographic screening begins), and as monitoring between mammograms. Thermography detects vascular and inflammatory changes associated with pre-clinical processes.

Inflammation Detection

Chronic inflammations appear as hyperthermic zones on the thermographic map. Arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, vascular problems -- thermography precisely locates the area of active inflammation, guiding treatment in a targeted manner.

Diabetic Foot and Circulation

Temperature differences greater than 2.2 degrees between symmetrical regions of the feet are predictive of ulceration. Thermography enables regular, non-invasive and early monitoring of diabetic foot complications, guiding preventive measures before injury.

Sports Medicine

Early identification of areas of overload, micro-injuries and thermal asymmetries in athletes. Thermography allows intervention before a minor injury becomes debilitating, guiding training, recovery and prevention.

Safety

Safe for everyone.

Zero Radiation

The camera captures the body's natural infrared radiation. It does not emit any type of energy. It can be repeated as many times as necessary.

Gravidas e Criancas

No contraindications. Safe during pregnancy, for children and for those with metallic implants or pacemakers.

15-20 Minutes

Quick and comfortable examination. No special preparation, no recovery time. Immediate visual result, detailed report within 48 hours.

The Examination

Como funciona a termografia

1

Preparation (5 min)

The patient adapts to the controlled ambient temperature of the room. No special preparation needed, no fasting required. Simply avoid creams or lotions on the area to be assessed.

2

Image Capture (10-15 min)

The high-resolution infrared camera captures the thermal emission from the skin surface. Resolution: 0.03-0.05 degrees difference. No contact, no compression, no radiation. The examination is completely silent and comfortable.

3

Analysis and Report (48h)

The images are analysed by a certified specialist. The detailed report identifies zones of hyperthermia (inflammation), hypothermia (poor circulation) and significant thermal asymmetries. Results delivered within 48 hours.

The Future

Inteligencia artificial na termografia

"AI-based infrared thermography system achieved an AUC of 0.95 in breast screening -- validated as a mobile screening tool, especially relevant for regions with limited mammography access."

Prospective multicentre study -- PMC, 2023

The artificial intelligence revolution is transforming thermography from a complementary tool into a high-precision screening technology. Machine learning algorithms learn to identify subtle patterns that escape the human eye, dramatically increasing specificity and reducing false positives.

Who Is It For

Quem deve considerar a termografia

Women with dense breast tissue -- where mammography has known limitations and thermography significantly complements it

Young women (< 40 years) -- before mammographic screening age, to establish an individual thermographic baseline

Diabetics -- regular foot monitoring for ulceration prevention (differences > 2.2 degrees are predictive)

Athletes -- early detection of micro-injuries, muscular overload and asymmetries that precede more serious injuries

Chronic pain patients -- precise localisation of chronic inflammations to guide osteopathic treatment or mesotherapy

Those who want preventive health -- annual radiation-free examination for early detection of changes, before they become pathologies
